About Weblog Search
Tue, May 20, 2003; by Dave Winer.
When you search Scripting News with the Weblog Search page, it sends your search request to Google, and gets back the top 50 matches. Then it sorts the results by date, and gets the actual posts from the weblog database. Weblog Search knows how to get exactly the bit you're looking for, where Google has to guess.
Example searches. Here are some searches I've done to test the application.
- http://archive.scripting.com/search/?q=jack+russo
- http://archive.scripting.com/search/?q=lessig
- http://archive.scripting.com/search/?q=sifry
- http://archive.scripting.com/search/?q=rosing
- http://archive.scripting.com/search/?q=doerr

Caveats. Due to limits in the Google API, each search does as many as 5 queries. It can be slow, but remember that while it's churning it's saving you time. We cache searches so if you repeat a search it won't have to wait again.
